Dr. Othman
Talib is a senior lecturer at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang. He
received his Master’s degrees from UPM (Pedagogy in Science Education) and his
Doctor of Education from the University of Adelaide, Australia (Pedagogy in
Chemistry Education). He started his career as a Chemistry teacher. He has a
keen interest in animation when he became a lecturer at the Department of
Science and Technical Education, UPM. He now owns 4 copyrights to teaching
pedagogy using animation. He started his research in 2005 and produced Canl
(Computer-Animated Instruction); a courseware for the teaching of
electrochemistry that has earned him Gold Medal at the Design, Research and
Innovation Exhibition (UPM) in 2009. He designed the Interactive Multimedia
Chemistry Module that was awarded Gold Medal at the Research and Innovation
Exhibition (UPSI). In his pursuit to deliver an effective teaching via
animation, he soon produced SEA – Simple Explicit Animation another courseware
for the teaching of Organic Chemistry in 2012. His work was awarded the Gold
Medal at the Malaysia Technology Expo 2012, Kuala Lumpur. His other research
also include the design of ‘claymation’ for the teaching of Science at primary
level in 2013. His most recent innovation is a mobile application named OCRA –
Organic Chemistry Reaction Apps produced in August 2014 which is scheduled to
be launched worldwide. Dr Othman Talib’s principle is to explore the potentials
of technology innovatively and creatively in order to be the pedagogical agent
that can assist in the teaching and learning, apart from creating a
personalised teaching environment. He hopes to share his experiences and
